Located near the memorial park marking the site of one of the largest Civil War battles, the town of Gettysburg sits in a landscape of rolling green hills with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance.
On the 5th (Mon), take in the history at Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center, then witness the site of a historic battle at Gettysburg National Military Park, and then take a pleasant ride with a tour on horseback.

New York City to Gettysburg is an approximately 4-hour car ride. You can also do a combination of train and bus; or take a bus. Traveling from New York City in October, Gettysburg is slightly colder at night with lows of 48°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 5th (Mon) so you can go by car to Philadelphia.

Steeped in cultural and historical heritage, Philadelphia is known as the birthplace of U.S.
Bring the kids along to Refreshing Mountain and Eastern State Penitentiary. Venture out of the city with trips to Longwood Gardens (in Kennett Square), Ronks (Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania & Old Windmill Farm) and Valley Forge National Historical Park (in Valley Forge). There's much more to do: admire the masterpieces at Philadelphia Museum of Art, take a stroll through Rittenhouse Square, visit Society Hill, and get a sense of history and politics at Independence Hall.

Drive from Gettysburg to Philadelphia in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of bus and train. In October, plan for daily highs up to 69°F, and evening lows to 53°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 8th (Thu) to allow time to take a train back home.
