Located near the memorial park marking the site of one of the largest Civil War battles, the town of Gettysburg sits in a landscape of rolling green hills with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance.
Start off your visit on the 11th (Wed): take an in-depth tour of Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center, explore and take pictures at Gettysburg National Military Park, then explore the different monuments and memorials at Gettysburg National Cemetery, and finally steep yourself in history at Little Round Top. Here are some ideas for day two: have some family-friendly fun at Victorian Photography Studio, steep yourself in history at Jennie Wade House, then see the interesting displays at Gettysburg Museum of History, and finally get interesting insight from Confederate Trails of Gettysburg.

Washington DC to Gettysburg is an approximately 2-hour car ride. You can also do a combination of train and taxi; or do a combination of train, flight, and taxi. In September, Gettysburg is a bit cooler than Washington DC - with highs of 77°F and lows of 57°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 12th (Thu) to allow time to drive to Philadelphia.
