Portland

— 3 nights

The Forest City

Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Portland: Marginal Way Walkway (in Ogunquit), Boston (Boston Public Garden, Faneuil Hall Marketplace, &more) and Kancamagus Highway (in North Conway). There's still lots to do: sample the tasty concoctions at Allagash Brewing Company, learn the secrets of beer at a beer tour and tasting, stop by Lisa-Marie's Made in Maine, and sample the fine beverages at Maine Craft Distilling.

To see where to stay, maps, other places to visit, and more tourist information, go to the Portland attractions planner.

In October, daytime highs in Portland are 62°F, while nighttime lows are 43°F.
