As the state’s second largest city, San Antonio embodies Texas’ rich cultural heritage while maintaining the Old West charm of an oil town.
Start off your visit on the 22nd (Fri): take in the architecture and atmosphere at San Fernando De Bexar Cathedral and then shop like a local with The San Antonio River Walk. Here are some ideas for day two: explore the galleries of The Alamo, make a trip to Main Plaza, and then get in on the family fun at SeaWorld.

For traveler tips, more things to do, maps, and tourist information, go to the San Antonio tour planner.

Detroit to San Antonio is an approximately 6- hour combination of bus and flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight; or drive. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Central Standard Time (CST) is minus 1 hour. Plan for somewhat warmer temperatures traveling from Detroit in May, with highs in San Antonio at 87°F and lows at 66°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 23rd (Sat) so you can go by car to Austin.

Despite its laid-back college vibe, Austin is an influential center for politics, technology, film, and music.
On the 24th (Sun), stroll through Lady Bird Lake Hike-and-Bike Trail, contemplate the waterfront views at Barton Springs Pool, then admire the striking features of The Driskill, and finally have some family-friendly fun at The Escape Game Austin. On the 25th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: ponder the world of politics at Texas State Capitol and then get engrossed in the history at Bullock Texas State History Museum.

For maps, other places to visit, photos, and more tourist information, refer to the Austin day trip tool.

You can drive from San Antonio to Austin in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. In May, daily temperatures in Austin can reach 85°F, while at night they dip to 65°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 25th (Mon) early enough to travel back home.
