One of the island of Hawaii's major towns, Hilo contains a mix of Asian and Polynesian cultures and is known for its proximity to a national park encompassing two active volcanoes.
Venture out of the city with trips to Kailua-Kona (Kailua Pier, Scuba & Snorkeling, &more), Hawaiian Vanilla Company (in Paauilo) and Volcano (Akatsuka Orchid Gardens, Epic Lava Tours, &more). Washington to Hilo is an approximately 16-hour flight. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time to Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time, which is usually a -5 hour difference. While traveling from Washington, expect somewhat warmer days and much warmer nights in Hilo, ranging from highs of 81°F to lows of 67°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 3rd (Tue) early enough to drive to Puako.

Puako is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hawaii County, Hawaii, United States. The Big Island
