Providence has undergone a major upgrade in recent years, transforming from a rough-around-the-edges industrial city into an epicenter of culture.
Relax by the water at Roger W. Wheeler State Beach and Narragansett Beach. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Venda Ravioli and Brown and Hopkins Country Store. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Providence: Blackstone River Bikeway (in Cumberland), Narragansett (Point Judith Lighthouse, Galilee, & more) and Bristol (Linden Place Mansion, Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum, & more). Boston to Providence is an approximately 1-hour train ride. You can also drive; or take a bus. In May in Providence, expect temperatures between 70°F during the day and 49°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Tue) early enough to travel to New Shoreham.
