Queen of the American Lakes

A playground for America’s wealthy families, Lake George was nicknamed "Queen of the American Lakes." While these families often stayed in private country houses, a tourism industry built up around them in the early 20th century facilitated by two YMCAs.
For shopping fun, head to The Hyde Collection Art Museum and Historic Home or Gunnison Lakeshore Orchards. Get outdoors at Prospect Mountain and Schroon Lake Town Beach. Step out of Lake George to go to Schroon Lake and see Paradox Brewery, which is approximately 46 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: do a tasting at Adirondack Winery, brush up on your knowledge of spirits at Lake George Distilling Company, kick back and relax at Million Dollar Beach, and indulge in some personalized pampering at some of the best spas.
