The City and Borough of Sitka, formerly Novo-Arkhangelsk, or New Archangel under Russian rule, is a unified city-borough located on Baranof Island and the southern half of Chichagof Island in the Alexander Archipelago of the Pacific Ocean (part of the Alaska Panhandle), in the U.S. On the 20th (Wed), steep yourself in history at Russian Bishop's House. On the next day, look for all kinds of wild species at Alaska Raptor Center, get to know the fascinating history of Sitka National Historic Park/Totem Park, and then get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour.

Seattle to Sitka is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and ferry. Traveling from Seattle to Sitka, you'll gain 1 hour due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Seattle in May, expect Sitka to be a bit cooler, temps between 56°F and 45°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Fri) so you can travel to Ketchikan.

Salmon Capital of the World

The narrow city of Ketchikan clings to the bluffs that form Revillagigedo Island's southwestern shore.
Kick off your visit on the 23rd (Sat): view the masterpieces at Scanlon Gallery, appreciate the extensive heritage of Creek Street, trek along Deer Mountain Trail, then steep yourself in history at Totem Bight State Historical Park, and finally stroll around Potlatch Totem Park. On your second day here, view the masterpieces at The Rain Barrel, get answers to all your questions at Southeast Alaska Discovery Center, then take an in-depth tour of Tongass Historical Museum, then enjoy the sand and surf at Rotary Beach, and finally tour the pleasant surroundings at Ketchikan Rainbird Trail.

Getting from Sitka to Ketchikan by combination of flight and ferry takes about 3 hours. Other options: ride a ferry. In May in Ketchikan, expect temperatures between 59°F during the day and 46°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Sun) so you can travel back home.
