Trails of Legends and Adventures

The center of Cherokee culture in the eastern part of the country, the town named after this Native American tribe serves as a base camp for hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Attractions like River Rafting & Tubing and Clingmans Dome make great kid-friendly stops. Get out of town with these interesting Cherokee side-trips: Chimneys Picnic Area (in Great Smoky Mountains National Park), Anna Ruby Falls (in Helen) and Hartford (5 Rivers Adventures & Bootleggers Distillery). The adventure continues: see the interesting displays at Museum of the Cherokee Indian, do a tasting at Crane Creek Vineyards, try to win big at Casino at Harrah’s Cherokee, and walk around Oconaluftee Islands Park.

For traveler tips, more things to do, where to stay, and other tourist information, you can read our Cherokee journey planner.

Expect a daytime high around 83°F in July, and nighttime lows around 62°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Tue) early enough to travel back home.
