The Motor City
Founded in 1701 by a French explorer and adventurer, Detroit exerted a profound impact on the world for most of the 20th century.Get a sense of the local culture at Detroit Institute of Arts and Motown Museum. Get out of town with these interesting Detroit side-trips: Toledo (Toledo Museum of Art & Toledo Zoo), Sandusky (Cedar Point & Kalahari Waterparks) and Catawba Island State Park (in Port Clinton). There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at The Henry Ford, catch a live event at Comerica Park, take in the waterfront at Detroit RiverFront, and walk around Belle Isle Park.
