Durango— 4 nights
Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.Kids will appreciate attractions like Mountain Waters Rafting & Adventure Company and Durango Rafting Company. Change things up with these side-trips from Durango: Wolf Creek Ski Resort (in Pagosa Springs) and Cliff Palace (in Mesa Verde National Park). The adventure continues: get interesting insight from Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and Museum, trek along Animas River Trail, fly down the slopes at Purgatory Resort, and take a pleasant ride with Rapp Corral.
