Durango

Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Explore Durango's surroundings by going to Cortez Cultural Center (in Cortez), Pagosa Springs (Bath House (Hot Springs) @ The Springs Resort & Spa & Treasure Falls) and Mesa Verde National Park (Balcony House & Cliff Palace). There's lots more to do: let the river carry you with a rafting and tubing tour, take a memorable tour with Tours, trot along with a tour on horseback, and walk around Box Canyon Waterfall & Park.

In July in Durango, expect temperatures between 86°F during the day and 54°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
