Dynamo of Dixie

Once saddled with the reputation of being one of the country's dirtiest cities, Chattanooga now boasts a pedestrian-friendly downtown with a network of leafy waterfront trails and free electric shuttles.
Take a break from Chattanooga with a short trip to River Rafting & Tubing in Ocoee, about 54 minutes away. There's still lots to do: get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Tennessee Aquarium, take in the awesome beauty at Lookout Mountain, stop by The Spice & Tea Exchange of Chattanooga, and take in the views from Walnut Street Bridge.

Memphis to Chattanooga is an approximately 6-hour car ride. You can also do a combination of flight and bus; or take a bus. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from Memphis to Chattanooga due to the time zone difference. In May, plan for daily highs up to 81°F, and evening lows to 59°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Fri) so you can drive to Knoxville.

A gateway to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Knoxville embraces music culture.
Kick off your visit on the 15th (Sat): contemplate the long history of Sam Houston Historic Schoolhouse, walk around World's Fair Park, then get engrossed in the history at East Tennesse Historical Society, then don't miss a visit to Market Square, and finally go for a walk through Strong Alley (Graffiti Alley). Keep things going the next day: take in the architecture and atmosphere at First Baptist Church, get to know the resident critters at Zoo Knoxville, and then identify plant and animal life at Ijams Nature Center.

Traveling by car from Chattanooga to Knoxville takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and flight. In May in Knoxville, expect temperatures between 79°F during the day and 57°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Sun) to allow enough time to fly back home.
