The Oleander City

An old colonial city and a busy cruise ship port less than an hour's drive from Houston, Galveston sits on Galveston Island and serves as a popular vacation destination for both domestic and international travelers.
Get out of town with these interesting Galveston side-trips: Kemah (Kemah Boardwalk & Stingray Reef 215 Kipp Ave), League City (Nana's Attic & West Bay Common School Museum) and Topgolf Webster (in Webster). Next up on the itinerary: appreciate the extensive heritage of The Seawall, get interesting insight from BayWatch Dolphin Tours, take a stroll through The Strand, and identify plant and animal life at Baytown Nature Center.

Tulsa to Galveston is an approximately 5.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus, train, and taxi. Traveling from Tulsa in March, expect Galveston to be somewhat warmer, temps between 71°F and 60°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Thu) to allow time to travel back home.

It's Island Time
Packed with vacation homes strung along a coastline of white sandy beaches, Galveston Island lies just 80 km (50 mi) southeast of Houston, so it attracts not only weekend revelers from the mainland, but also international tourists. At 43 km (27 mi) long and less than 5 km (3 mi) wide, the compact island is small enough to do most of your sightseeing on foot. Much of its area (with the exception of the town of Jamaica Beach) lies within the city limits of Galveston, a busy cruise ship port. If you plan to make Galveston your base on the island, visit at least one of the city's museums before heading to the beach.
