Gatlinburg — 4 nights

The Gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains

Nestled in the lush, wooded forests of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg is Tennessee’s premier mountain resort destination.
Your list of things to see and do now includes Moonshine Mountain Coaster, Smoky Mountain Ziplines, Nantahala Outdoor Center - Pigeon River Outpost, and other attractions. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail and Roaring Fork. There's still lots to do: hike along Grotto Falls Parking.

For where to stay, photos, traveler tips, and more tourist information, read Gatlinburg trip planner.

Chapel Hill to Gatlinburg is an approximately 6-hour car ride. You can also fly; or drive; or do a combination of bus, shuttle, and taxi. In July, daily temperatures in Gatlinburg can reach 87°F, while at night they dip to 69°F. On the 2nd (Sun), you'll have the morning to explore before heading back home.
