One of the island of Hawaii's major towns, Hilo contains a mix of Asian and Polynesian cultures and is known for its proximity to a national park encompassing two active volcanoes.
On the 4th (Sat), take in the dramatic scenery at Rainbow Falls, take in the dramatic scenery at Wailuku River State Park, take in the dramatic natural features at Boiling Pots, then cruise along Banyan Drive, and finally see the sky in a new way at Mauna Loa Observatory. On the 5th (Sun), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: trek along Kilauea Iki Trailhead, take a memorable drive along Chain of Craters Rd, cruise along Devastation Trail, admire all the interesting features of Pu'u Loa Petroglyphs, then take a stroll through Kalapana, and finally examine the collection at Jagger Museum.
