Lexington — 4 nights

Known internationally as the "Horse Capital of the World," Lexington boasts a thriving economy resting largely on its thoroughbred racehorse industry.
Change things up with these side-trips from Lexington: Versailles (Sun Valley Farm & Woodford Reserve Distillery), Claiborne Farm (in Paris) and Frankfort (Castle & Key Distillery & Buffalo Trace Distillery). There's much more to do: immerse yourself in nature at Kentucky Horse Park, try your luck at Keeneland, experience rural life at Mill Ridge Farm, and brush up on your knowledge of spirits at James E. Pepper Distillery.

Washington to Lexington is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also drive. Expect a daytime high around 81°F in September, and nighttime lows around 59°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Fri) so you can travel back home.
