Known internationally as the "Horse Capital of the World," Lexington boasts a thriving economy resting largely on its thoroughbred racehorse industry.
Kentucky Horse Park and Berea Arts Council are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Do your shopping at Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea and Tater Knob Pottery and Farm. Explore Lexington's surroundings by going to Woodford Reserve Distillery (in Versailles), Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill (in Harrodsburg) and The Great American Dollhouse Museum (in Danville). There's much more to do: catch the contagious excitement of Keeneland, contemplate the long history of Mary Todd Lincoln House, brush up on your knowledge of spirits at Buffalo Trace Distillery, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Paul Catholic Church.
