Traverse City might be well known for its huge cherry industry, but its position along Grand Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan endows it with fine scenery and a wealth of outdoor attractions.
Start off your visit on the 18th (Sun): enjoy the sea views from Old Mission Lighthouse. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 19th (Mon): sample some tasty brews at a beer tour and tasting and then appreciate the extensive heritage of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

New York City to Traverse City is an approximately 4.5-hour combination of bus and flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Traveling from New York City in August, things will get slightly colder in Traverse City: highs are around 79°F and lows about 60°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 19th (Mon) to allow enough time to drive to Petoskey.
