Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Bring the kids along to Audubon Zoo and Jackson Square. Appreciate the collections at The National WWII Museum and Jamie Hayes Gallery. There's much more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. Louis Cathedral, appreciate the extensive heritage of Garden District, wander the streets of Frenchmen Street, and explore the different monuments and memorials at Lafayette Cemetery No.1.

New York City to New Orleans is an approximately 6-hour combination of bus and flight. You can also fly; or drive. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Central Standard Time (CST) is minus 1 hour. Houma is the largest city in and the parish seat of Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, and the largest principal city of the Houma - Bayou Cane - Thibodaux Metropolitan Statistical Area. Start off your visit on the 3rd (Thu): admire the striking features of Oak Alley Plantation, then experience rural life at St. Joseph Plantation, and then steep yourself in history at Laura Plantation: Louisiana's Creole Heritage Site.

You can drive from New Orleans to Houma in 1.5 hours. Traveling from New Orleans in January, Houma is slightly colder at night with lows of 42°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 4th (Fri) to allow enough time to travel back home.
