Medora — 2 nights

Medora is a city in Billings County, North Dakota, United States. Go for a jaunt from Medora to Watford City to see Little Missouri National Grassland about 30 minutes away. Spend the 20th (Mon) exploring nature at South Unit. Spend the 22nd (Wed) exploring nature at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It doesn't end there: get to know the fascinating history of Painted Canyon Overlook and take an in-depth tour of Chateau de Mores State Historic Site.

Denver to Medora is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus and car. Prepare for a bit cooler weather when traveling from Denver in June: high temperatures in Medora hover around 76°F and lows are around 50°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Bismarck.

Bismarck — 2 nights

Bismarck is the capital of the U.S. state of North Dakota and the county seat of Burleigh County. Start off your visit on the 23rd (Thu): get a sense of history and politics at North Dakota State Capitol Building and then get engrossed in the history at North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum. Keep things going the next day: contemplate the long history of On-A-Slant Village, then let the kids burn off some steam at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, and then get to know the resident critters at The Dakota Zoo.

You can drive from Medora to Bismarck in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and bus. The time zone changes from Mountain Standard Time (MST) to Central Standard Time (CST), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Expect a daytime high around 79°F in June, and nighttime lows around 54°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 24th (Fri) early enough to travel back home.
