A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Start off your visit on the 17th (Tue): walk around Laurelhurst Park and then explore the activities along Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: admire the striking features of Pittock Mansion, admire the natural beauty at International Rose Test Garden, then admire the natural beauty at Portland Japanese Garden, then take in nature's colorful creations at Lan Su Chinese Garden, and finally stop by Powell's City of Books.
