The Renaissance City

Providence has undergone a major upgrade in recent years, transforming from a rough-around-the-edges industrial city into an epicenter of culture.
Start off your visit on the 4th (Fri): get interesting insight from La Gondola and then grab your bike and head to Blackstone River Bikeway. On your second day here, kick back and relax at Fort Phoenix State Reservation, then immerse yourself in nature at Colt State Park, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at East Bay Bike Path.

New York City to Providence is an approximately 3.5-hour car ride. You can also fly; or take a train. Traveling from New York City in September, expect a bit cooler with lows of 57°F in Providence. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Sun) early enough to go by car to Portland.

The Forest City

Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
You've now added Ram Island Ledge Light to your itinerary. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Eastern Promenade Trail and Higgins Beach. Take a break from the city and head to Casco Bay and Pine Point Beach. Next up on the itinerary: steep yourself in history at Wadsworth-Longfellow House, race across the water with Ribbit Adventures, examine the collection at Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company and Museum, and do a tasting at Maine Mead Works.
