Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S.

Start off your visit on the 8th (Sat): sample the fine beverages at Casa Bacardi Puerto Rico and then skim along the rocks with a canyoning and rapelling tour. Expect a daytime high around 88°F in May, and nighttime lows around 76°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Sun) to allow enough time to drive to El Yunque National Forest.

Getting from San Juan to El Yunque National Forest by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a shuttle. In May, daytime highs in El Yunque National Forest are 88°F, while nighttime lows are 76°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Mon) so you can travel to Culebra.

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.

On the 11th (Tue), enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Punta Soldado Beach and then kick back and relax at Flamenco Beach. On the 12th (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: head off the coast to Culebrita Island and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Zoni Beach.

You can fly from El Yunque National Forest to Culebra in 2.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of shuttle and ferry. Expect a daytime high around 87°F in May, and nighttime lows around 77°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 12th (Wed) early enough to travel back home.
