The center of Cherokee culture in the eastern part of the country, the town named after this Native American tribe serves as a base camp for hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Venture out of the city with trips to Cataloochee Valley (in Great Smoky Mountains National Park) and Maggie Valley (Wheels Through Time Transportation Museum & Maggie Valley Wellness Center). Pittsburgh to Cherokee is an approximately 6.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus and taxi.
