Situated at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville is perhaps best known as the home of three of the United States' founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson.
On the 11th (Tue), steep yourself in history at James Monroe's Highland, then gain insight at University of Virginia, and then contemplate the long history of James Madison's Montpelier. On the 12th (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: stop by King Family Vineyards, then contemplate the long history of Frontier Culture Museum, and then take in the exciting artwork at McGuffey Art Center.

Drive from Lexington to Charlottesville in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and bus; or do a combination of taxi and train. In June, Charlottesville is a bit warmer than Lexington - with highs of 84°F and lows of 64°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 12th (Wed) early enough to go by car to Richmond.

On the 13th (Thu), ponder the world of politics at Virginia Capitol Building, see the interesting displays at White House of the Confederacy, pause for some serene contemplation at St. John's Episcopal Church, then explore the different monuments and memorials at Hollywood Cemetery, and finally take a stroll through Carytown.
