The capital of the United States, the District of Columbia contains the lion's share of the country's most treasured monuments, memorials, and public museums.
Your day by day itinerary now includes Library of Congress, Capitol Hill and Arlington National Cemetery. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Founded in 1632 as a fortified settlement on the high ground between two rivers, Williamsburg served as a colonial capital of Virginia for over 80 years.
Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Mon): stop by Wythe Candy and Gourmet Shop. On the 23rd (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: see the interesting displays at U.S. Army Transportation Museum, then witness the site of a historic battle at American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, then explore the striking landscape of Colonial National Historical Park, and finally take in the exciting artwork at Williamsburg Art Gallery.
