Houston

— 55 nights

Bayou City

Although urban sprawl remains synonymous with Houston, most of the city's tourist attractions lie within the relatively small downtown area, surrounded by diverse neighborhoods housing the nation's biggest African-American, Asian-American, and Latino communities.
Change things up with these side-trips from Houston: La Porte (San Jacinto Museum of History, San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, &more), Galveston (Galveston's 61st Street Fishing Pier, East End Historic District, &more) and League City (Walter Hall Park, Butler Longhorn Museum, &more). Spend the 10th (Fri) exploring nature at Big Thicket National Preserve. There's still lots to do: meet the residents at Houston Zoo, explore the different monuments and memorials at Glenwood Cemetery, get in on the family fun at Kemah Boardwalk, and explore the world behind art at Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
