Bayou City

Although urban sprawl remains synonymous with Houston, most of the city's tourist attractions lie within the relatively small downtown area, surrounded by diverse neighborhoods housing the nation's biggest African-American, Asian-American, and Latino communities.
For shopping fun, head to Old Town Spring or Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. Space Center Houston and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston will appeal to museum buffs. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Houston: Humble (Old MacDonald's Farm & Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Reserve), Wolf Creek Park (in Coldspring) and Haak Vineyards and Winery, Inc. (in Santa Fe). Spend the 18th (Mon) exploring nature at Big Thicket National Preserve. Plan for a day of cool, family-friendly fun on the 22nd (Fri) at Splashway Waterpark. There's lots more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Cockrell Butterfly Center, tour the pleasant surroundings at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site, explore the engaging exhibits at Children's Museum of Houston, and immerse yourself in nature at Brazos Bend State Park.
