For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Balneario Sun Bay and Playa Media Luna. Head to Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Gallery and Fish Marketfor plenty of shopping. The adventure continues: enjoy the sand and surf at Playa La Chiva, stroll through Playa Navio, glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, and trot along with a tour on horseback.

Known as the "Land of Giants" in honor of its celebrated residents--including poet Julia de Burgos and baseball player Roberto Clemente--Carolina makes a living as both an industrial center and a hub of tourism.
Visit Condado Beach and Carolina Beach for some beach relaxation. Attractions like Playa Luquillo and Climbing Tours make great kid-friendly stops. A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Jobos Beach and Playa Sucia. Get outdoors at Parque Nacional de las Cavernas del Rio Camuy and Sandy Beach.
