Set in the heart of one of the United States' most esteemed wine-producing regions, just 45 minutes from San Francisco, Sonoma boasts colonial Mexican architecture, including a mission.
Get out of town with these interesting Sonoma side-trips: Tiburon (Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Blackie's Pasture), Inverness (Tomales Bay State Park & Drakes Estero) and Muir Beach (Green Gulch Farm, Muir Beach, & more). Dedicate the 18th (Thu) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. Plan for a day of cool, family-friendly fun on the 21st (Sun) at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. There's much more to do: delve into the lush surroundings at Muir Woods National Monument, soar above the sights with a balloon tour, admire the masterpieces at The Hess Collection Winery & Art Museum, and don't miss a visit to Sonoma Plaza.

In April, daytime highs in Sonoma are 67°F, while nighttime lows are 44°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Fri) early enough to travel back home.
