Lake Placid is a village in the Adirondack Mountains in Essex County, New York, United States. Take a break from Lake Placid with a short trip to The Wild Center in Tupper Lake, about 44 minutes away. There's lots more to do: explore the activities along Mirror Lake, take in the awesome beauty at Mount Jo, get in on the excitement at Olympic Ski Jump Complex, and fly down the slopes at Whiteface Mountain.

New York City to Lake Placid is an approximately 5-hour car ride. You can also do a combination of flight and car; or do a combination of train and taxi. When traveling from New York City in October, plan for slightly colder days and colder nights in Lake Placid: temperatures range from 57°F by day to 34°F at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 8th (Fri) so you can go by car to Lake George.

Queen of the American Lakes

A playground for America’s wealthy families, Lake George was nicknamed "Queen of the American Lakes." While these families often stayed in private country houses, a tourism industry built up around them in the early 20th century facilitated by two YMCAs.

Drive from Lake Placid to Lake George in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Traveling from Lake Placid in October, plan for somewhat warmer nights in Lake George, with lows around 40°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Mon) early enough to fly back home.
