For most visitors to this part of the world, the wild part of Alaska starts at Seward, a small port city that takes advantage of the region's natural beauty.
You've now added Exit Glacier to your itinerary. Kick off your visit on the 8th (Sat): explore the striking landscape at Exit Glacier, get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, then get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Alaska SeaLife Center, and finally take an in-depth tour of Seward Community Library & Museum.

Traveling by car from Anchorage to Seward takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In May, daily temperatures in Seward can reach 55°F, while at night they dip to 40°F. You will have some time to spend on the 9th (Sun) before leaving for Denali National Park and Preserve.

Do a combination of bus and train from Seward to Denali National Park and Preserve in 11 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. In May, plan for daily highs up to 60°F, and evening lows to 38°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Mon) so you can travel to Fairbanks.

Fairbanks

The Golden Heart City

With its strip malls and fast-food restaurants, Fairbanks appears a bit functional on first glance.
Your day by day itinerary now includes Alyeska Pipeline Viewing Point as well as Running Reindeer Ranch. On the 11th (Tue), make a trip to Alyeska Pipeline Viewing Point, wander the wide-open spaces of Running Reindeer Ranch, then find something for the whole family at Pioneer Park, and finally see the interesting displays at Fairbanks Ice Museum.

Traveling by combination of flight and bus from Denali National Park and Preserve to Fairbanks takes 6 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and train; or take a bus. In May in Fairbanks, expect temperatures between 61°F during the day and 38°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Tue) so you can fly back home.
