New Haven, in the U.S. state of Connecticut, is the principal municipality in Greater New Haven, which had a total population of 862,477 in 2010. You'll find plenty of places to visit near New Haven: The Mark Twain House & Museum (in Hartford), Sheffield Island Lighthouse (in Norwalk) and Connecticut Fallen Firefighters Memorial (in Windsor Locks). There's still lots to do: admire the masterpieces at Yale University Art Gallery, get a new perspective on things with Boat Tours & Water Sports, stroll through Hammonasset Beach State Park, and head off the coast to Thimble Islands.

New York City to New Haven is an approximately 2-hour car ride. You can also take a bus; or take a train. In July, daily temperatures in New Haven can reach 83°F, while at night they dip to 68°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Mystic.

A historical leading seaport, Mystic has maintained a strong respect for the past.
You've now added Mystic Seaport Museum to your itinerary. Change things up with a short trip to Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam (about 46 minutes away). There's much more to do: admire nature's wide array of creatures at Mystic Aquarium, take an in-depth tour of Tantaquidgeon Museum, pause for some photo ops at US Submarine Veterans of WWII National Memorial East, and stop by The Spice & Tea Exchange.
