Durango — 5 nights

Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Durango: Mesa Verde National Park (Cliff Palace & Balcony House), Million Dollar Highway (in Silverton) and Pagosa Springs (Bath House (Hot Springs) @ The Springs Resort & Spa & Treasure Falls). There's still lots to do: whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, take a pleasant ride with a tour on horseback, get a new perspective on things with Boat Tours & Water Sports, and stroll through Animas River Trail.

For where to stay, more things to do, photos, and other tourist information, read Durango trip itinerary builder site.

In June, daytime highs in Durango are 85°F, while nighttime lows are 44°F.
