Durango

Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Explore Durango's surroundings by going to Mesa Verde National Park (Balcony House & Cliff Palace), Cortez Cultural Center (in Cortez) and Pagosa Springs (Lantern Dancer, Treasure Falls, &more). Next up on the itinerary: let the river carry you with a rafting and tubing tour, kick your exploration up a notch at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, stroll through Purgatory Resort, and make a trip to Historic Downtown Durango.

To see maps, where to stay, photos, and other tourist information, use the Durango day trip planning website.

In July in Durango, expect temperatures between 86°F during the day and 54°F at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 12th (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
