Durango

— 5 nights
Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Explore Durango's surroundings by going to Mesa Verde National Park (Balcony House & Cliff Palace), Ouray (Box Canyon Waterfall & Park, Yankee Boy Basin, &more) and Pagosa Springs (Bath House (Hot Springs) @ The Springs Resort & Spa & Treasure Falls). There's much more to do: see Off-Road Tours, kick your exploration up a notch at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, trot along with a tour on horseback, and make a trip to Historic Downtown Durango.

To see other places to visit, traveler tips, where to stay, and tourist information, go to the Durango travel route planner.

In July, plan for daily highs up to 86°F, and evening lows to 54°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
