Queen of the American Lakes

A playground for America’s wealthy families, Lake George was nicknamed "Queen of the American Lakes." While these families often stayed in private country houses, a tourism industry built up around them in the early 20th century facilitated by two YMCAs.
Bring the kids along to The Great Escape & Hurricane Harbor and Fort William Henry Museum. Explore Lake George's surroundings by going to Howe Caverns (in Howes Cave), National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum (in Cooperstown) and The Clark Art Institute (in Williamstown). There's still lots to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Lake George, kick back and relax at Million Dollar Beach, have some family-friendly fun at Oscar's Smoke House, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Prospect Mountain.

Expect a daytime high around 80°F in August, and nighttime lows around 57°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 9th (Fri) so you can travel back home.
