Many residents have shunned fast-paced city living for Taos's laid-back vibe and blend of Spanish, Native American, and Anglo cultures.
Kick off your visit on the 14th (Wed): take a memorable drive along Enchanted Circle Drive, examine the collection at Millicent Rogers Museum, and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at San Francisco de Assisi Mission Church. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: look for all kinds of wild species at Wild Rivers Recreation Area, then soar above the sights with a balloon tour, and then cruise along The Low Road From Taos and Santa Fe.

For where to stay, traveler tips, photos, and other tourist information, use the Taos travel planner .

New York City to Taos is an approximately 10.5-hour combination of bus, flight, and car. You can also do a combination of flight and shuttle; or drive. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Mountain Standard Time (MST), which is usually a -2 hour difference. Traveling from New York City in October, expect nights in Taos to be colder, around 33°F, while days are little chillier, around 65°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Thu) to allow enough time to drive to Albuquerque.

On the 17th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: see the interesting displays at New Mexico Steam Locomotive and Railroad Historical Society, then get engrossed in the history at Sky City Cultural Center & Haak'u Museum, and then witness a stunning natural landmark at Jemez Hot Springs: Home of The Giggling Springs.
