The Big Easy

Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Step out of the city life by going to Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve and Biloxi Beach. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like French Quarter and Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site. Get out of town with these interesting New Orleans side-trips: Biloxi (Beau Rivage Casino & Fishing Charters & Tours), Whitney Plantation (in Wallace) and Vacherie (Laura: Louisiana's Creole Heritage Site & St. Joseph Plantation). There's lots more to do: admire the masterpieces at The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden at NOMA, explore the different monuments and memorials at Lake Lawn Metairie, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Immaculate Conception Church, and brush up on your military savvy at The National WWII Museum.

To see maps, reviews, other places to visit, and more tourist information, you can read our New Orleans travel route planner.

In March, plan for daily highs up to 61°F, and evening lows to 61°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Tue) to allow enough time to travel back home.
