Trails of Legends and Adventures

The center of Cherokee culture in the eastern part of the country, the town named after this Native American tribe serves as a base camp for hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains.
On the 17th (Fri), try your luck at Casino at Harrah’s Cherokee. Here are some ideas for day two: see the interesting displays at Wheels Through Time Transportation Museum and then let the river carry you with a rafting and tubing tour.

Moline to Cherokee is an approximately 7.5-hour combination of flight and car. You can also drive. The time zone changes from Central Standard Time (CST) to Eastern Standard Time (EST), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Moline in December: high temperatures in Cherokee hover around 54°F and lows are around 32°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Sat) early enough to drive to Asheville.

Asheville nestles between two major mountain ranges in the scenic western section of North Carolina.
Get out of town with these interesting Asheville side-trips: Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park (in Chimney Rock), Burntshirt Vineyards (in Hendersonville) and Zipline (in Lake Lure). Spend the 19th (Sun) exploring nature at The North Carolina Arboretum. Traveling by car from Cherokee to Asheville takes 1.5 hours. In December, plan for daily highs up to 54°F, and evening lows to 35°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Tue) early enough to drive to Boone.

Boone is a town located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, United States. Start off your visit on the 22nd (Wed): ride a horse along Moses H. Cone Memorial Park and then kick your exploration up a notch at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks.
