Springfield is the capital of Illinois, but its real significance is as the hometown of Abraham Lincoln.
Kick off your visit on the 29th (Tue): get engrossed in the history at Lincoln Home National Historic Site, get engrossed in the history at Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, then take an in-depth tour of Union Station - Lincoln from History to Hollywood, and finally snap pictures at Sugar Creek Covered Bridge. On your second day here, tour the pleasant surroundings at Lincoln Memorial Garden, steep yourself in history at Dana-Thomas House, and then make a trip to Lincoln Tomb & War Memorials.
