For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Start off your visit on the 15th (Tue): take in the exciting artwork at Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Gallery and then contemplate the waterfront views at Sun Bay. On the 16th (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: kick back and relax at Media Luna Beach, then take in the exciting artwork at Gallery Galleon, then look for gifts at Isla Vida, and finally kick back and relax at La Chiva.

Isla de Vieques is very close to San Juan. In January in Isla de Vieques, expect temperatures between 82°F during the day and 72°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Wed) so you can travel to Culebra.

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
On the 17th (Thu), get lost in a book at Culebra Public Library, look for gifts at Zinkowski Art Studio, then enjoy the sand and surf at Carlos Rosario Beach, and finally enjoy the sand and surf at Zoni Beach. Here are some ideas for day two: stroll through Flamenco Beach.

Getting from Isla de Vieques to Culebra by combination of car and flight takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: ride a ferry. Expect a daytime high around 84°F in January, and nighttime lows around 73°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 18th (Fri) early enough to travel back home.
