Gateway to the Black Hills

South Dakota's second-largest city, Rapid City has for many years served as a gateway to the West.
Explore Rapid City's surroundings by going to Custer State Park (in Custer) and Mount Rushmore National Memorial (in Keystone). There's still lots to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Bear Country USA, go deep underground at Big Thunder Gold Mine, brush up on your military savvy at South Dakota Air and Space Museum, and get outside with Main Street Square.

Alamo, located in the Rio Grande Valley in what is nicknamed the "Land of Two Summers," is a town known as "The Refuge to the Valley" in the irrigated area of southern Hidalgo County, Texas. Kick off your visit on the 17th (Fri): don't miss a visit to Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Valley Nature Center. Keep things going the next day: take an in-depth tour of Museum of South Texas History and then stroll through Edinburg Scenic Wetlands.
