Founded in 1632 as a fortified settlement on the high ground between two rivers, Williamsburg served as a colonial capital of Virginia for over 80 years.
Colonial Williamsburg has been added to your itinerary. Take a break from the city and head to Colonial National Historic Park and Cape Charles Beach. USS Monitor Center and U.S. Army Transportation Museum will appeal to museum buffs. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Williamsburg: Virginia War Museum (in Newport News) and Saude Creek Vineyards (in Lanexa). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at George Wythe House, learn about winemaking at Silver Hand Meadery, pause for some serene contemplation at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church, and take a tour of Jamestown Settlement.

For other places to visit, maps, and more tourist information, read Williamsburg road trip site .

Use the Route module to find suitable travel options from your home destination to Williamsburg. Expect a daytime high around 91°F in July, and nighttime lows around 73°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Tue) early enough to drive to Yorktown.

Yorktown is a census-designated place (CDP) in York County, Virginia, United States. You've now added Yorktown Beach to your itinerary. Start off your visit on the 24th (Wed): enjoy the sand and surf at Yorktown Beach, take in the spiritual surroundings of Historic Christ Church, then enjoy the sea views from New Point Comfort Lighthouse, then contemplate the long history of Moore House, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at Grace Episcopal Church. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: witness the site of a historic battle at Yorktown Battlefield, then brush up on your military savvy at Virginia War Museum, then take an in-depth tour of Isle of Wight County Museum, and finally examine the collection at USS Monitor Center.

Plan my day in Yorktown using traveler tips and tourist information provided by Inspirock.

Yorktown is just a stone's throw from Williamsburg. In July, plan for daily highs up to 89°F, and evening lows to 73°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 26th (Fri) to allow time for the car ride back home.
