The City of Lights and Flowers

Home to nearly half of Alaska's population, the port city of Anchorage covers a staggering area of over 4,900 sq km (1,900 sq mi) surrounded by mountains.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Anchorage: Whittier (Prince William Sound Museum, Begich Towers Incorporated, &more), Kenai National Wildlife Refuge (in Soldotna) and Palmer (Pioneer Falls, Horseback Riding Tours, &more). Spend the 30th (Fri) on the rails with a train tour. Make the 4th (Tue) an awe-inspiring day at Chugach State Park. There's much more to do: identify plant and animal life at Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, capture your vacation like a pro with an inspiring photography tour, get curious at Imaginarium Discovery Center, and explore the activities along Lake Eklutna.

For reviews, where to stay, other places to visit, and other tourist information, you can read our Anchorage road trip tool.
