Grand Rapids — 59 nights

The second largest city in Michigan and a hub of furniture manufacturing, Grand Rapids bears the nickname "Furniture City." However, the destination's original name came from the rapids of the Grand River that once ran through the downtown area.
Relax by the water at North Beach and Silver Lake State Park Pedestrian Dune Access. Get some cultural insight at Gerald R. Ford Museum and Ludington North Breakwater Light. Venture out of the city with trips to Ludington (Ludington State Park, Hemlock Golf Club, &more), Charles Mears State Park (in Pentwater) and Grand Haven (Kitchel Lindquist Dunes Preserve, Rosy Mound Natural Area, &more). There's much more to do: wander the streets of Heritage Hill Historic District, sample some tasty brews at a beer tour and tasting, explore the landscape on two wheels at William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Trail, and explore by horseback at Stony Lake Stables.

For traveler tips, more things to do, where to stay, and more tourist information, read Grand Rapids trip planner.

New York City to Grand Rapids is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Expect little chillier evenings in Grand Rapids when traveling from New York City in September, with lows around 54°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 8th (Tue) to allow enough time to fly back home.
