Friday Harbor — 59 nights

You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Island Studios and Westcott Bay Shellfish Co.. For shopping fun, head to Arctic Raven Gallery or WaterWorks Gallery. There's lots more to do: get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, explore the galleries of San Juan Islands Sculpture Park, explore the world behind art at IMA - San Juan Islands Museum of Art, and take in the dramatic natural features at Cattle Point.

For maps, reviews, where to stay, and other tourist information, refer to the Friday Harbor online tour itinerary planner.

Seattle to Friday Harbor is an approximately 2.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of shuttle and flight; or ride a ferry. Traveling from Seattle in July, expect Friday Harbor to be slightly colder, temps between 74°F and 50°F. On the 29th (Mon), you're off to home.

San Juan Island travel guide

4.6
Dolphin & Whale Watching · State Parks · Specialty Museums
An archipelago between the U.S. and Canada, the San Juan Islands feature low hills and rough coastline that are sparsely populated, giving the islands a mysterious appearance. The region sits along the Pacific flyway, so bird-watching is popular with travelers here, with more than 300 species to be spotted. Whale watching draws more wildlife enthusiasts--you can sight the animals from the ferry that transports you to the islands or sign up for a dedicated tour seeking out the mammals. All transport to the island is by water or air; most customers are tourists. About 8,000 residents call the islands home.
