You'll discover tucked-away gems like Seven Mile Bridge and John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Venture out of the city with trips to Island Dolphin Care (in Key Largo), Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center (in Tavernier) and Fishing Charters & Tours (in Islamorada). Located just 140 km (90 mi) from Cuba, Key West is an island only about 6.4 km (4 mi) long and 1.6 km (1 mi) wide.
Step off the beaten path and head to Dry Tortugas National Park and The Overseas Highway. Spend the 7th (Mon) on the water with a fishing tour. There's lots more to do: kick back and relax at Fort Zachary Taylor, brush up on your military savvy at U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Ingham Maritime Museum, identify plant and animal life at Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory, and browse the exhibits of Truman Little White House.
