Washington DC

— 59 nights
The capital of the United States, the District of Columbia contains the lion's share of the country's most treasured monuments, memorials, and public museums.
Museum-lovers will get to explore National Air and Space Museum and Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Explore Washington DC's surroundings by going to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge (in Cambridge), Columbia (Robinson Nature Center, Lake Kittamaqundi, &more) and Baltimore (Sagamore Spirit Distillery, Inner Harbor, &more). There's still lots to do: pause for some photo ops at Vietnam Veterans Memorial, admire the masterpieces at National Portrait Gallery, learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at National Zoological Park, and explore the activities along Tidal Basin.

To see reviews, more things to do, where to stay, and tourist information, read our Washington DC day trip planner.
